La Serena Tourist Lodge

GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION

La Serena Innis located in the northwest region of Santa Cruz Province, Argentina, on the shores of Lake Buenos Aires or General Carrera, as it is called in Chile. It is the second largest lake in South America after Lake Titicaca (Peru – Bolivia). The lodge is situated on Provincial Route No. 43, between the towns of Perito Moreno (4,600 inhabitants) and Los Antiguos (3,300 inhabitants), approximately 25 km from the former and 31 km from the latter.

By following Provincial Route No. 43, you can also access the La Ascensión Gateway (Patagonia Park) and the Rio Jeinimeni International Border Crossing, which connects the towns of “Los Antiguos” in Argentina and “Chile Chico” in Chile (4,800 inhabitants).

Weather

The climate is characterized as semi-arid and temperate, influenced both by the proximity to Lake Buenos Aires and by the air currents from the Pacific Ocean, making it warmer than other areas of Patagonia. It has long summer days, excellent temperatures, high solar radiation, and low relative humidity.

TEMPERATURE:

The average monthly temperatures range from 2.5°C (June) to 14.9°C (January). The lowest recorded temperature is around -11.6°C in July, and the highest is 31.1°C in February.

PRECIPITATION:

Precipitation is concentrated in the autumn-winter period. The average annual rainfall is 192 mm, although this value can vary significantly.

WIND:

The windiest months are August, September, and October, with an average speed of 5.3 km/h and a maximum average of 52.2 km/h. The prevailing winds come from the NNW (north-northwest) and SSW (south-southwest) directions.

HOW TO GET TO LA SERENA

BY AIR TO COMODORO RIVADAVIA AND THEN BY ROAD:

You can arrive by plane (Aerolíneas Argentinas) to Comodoro Rivadavia (415 km from La Serena) and then either take a bus or rent a vehicle.

If you choose to take a bus from the Comodoro Rivadavia Bus Terminal, select the destination to Los Antiguos, and after passing the town of Perito Moreno, you will find the entrance gate to the ranch just 15 minutes away. (Remember to inform the bus drivers in Perito Moreno that you will be getting off at La Serena). If you let us know in advance, we will wait for you at the gate.

If you choose to rent a vehicle at Comodoro Rivadavia airport, after approximately 5.2 hours, you will find the entrance gate to the ranch.


BY AIR TO PERITO MORENO:

You can arrive by plane (LADE) at “Jalil Hamer” Airport in the town of Perito Moreno (25 km from La Serena). This airline connects with the towns of Rio Mayo and Comodoro Rivadavia. It is recommended to check in advance if these flights are operating. If this option is available and you provide us with your flight number in advance, we can pick you up at the airport.


ROUTE ACCESS:

Provincial Route No. 43, which is paved, connects the town of Perito Moreno with Los Antiguos and passes through La Serena Ranch. It is also the access road to Portal La Ascensión of the Patagonia Park and the border between Chile and Argentina.

National Route No. 40, partially paved, runs through Argentina from North to South. It is located 25 km from La Serena and provides access to Cueva de las Manos, Gobernador Gregores, Chalten, Calafate, and other destinations.
